King vs Super King: Which Bedsheet Size Fits Your Bed?
Share
The short answer: it depends on how wide your mattress is and how thick it is. At The Bed Edit, a King bedsheet is 95 × 108 inches and a Super King bedsheet is 108 × 108 inches. Both come with 2 pillow covers. As a rule of thumb, a King bedsheet suits a queen-size bed (about 5 feet wide). A Super King suits a king-size bed (about 6 feet wide) with a regular 6 to 9 inch mattress. If your mattress is 10 inches or thicker, or has a topper, measure first, as you may need our Jumbo King (120 × 120 inches).

The two sizes are the same length. The difference is width: a Super King is 13 inches wider, which gives you about 6.5 extra inches of drape on each side of the bed.
Why bedsheet names are confusing in India
Bedsheet size names aren't standardised in India. Many brands sell a "king" bedsheet at 90 × 108 inches, while ours is 95 × 108. Bed and mattress sizes vary too. That's why it's best to ignore the name on the label and compare the bedsheet's measurements with your mattress.
Common mattress sizes in Indian homes include:
- Queen: about 60 inches wide (5 feet), usually 72, 75 or 78 inches long.
- King: about 72 inches wide (6 feet), usually 72, 75 or 78 inches long.
Your bed may differ, so a quick measurement is always worth it.
How to measure your bed in 2 minutes
- Width: measure across the top of the mattress, side to side.
- Length: measure from the head of the mattress to the foot.
- Thickness: measure the height of the mattress, including any topper. Most Indian mattresses are 6 to 8 inches thick.
A flat bedsheet needs to cover the top of the mattress, drop down each side, and still leave enough to tuck in. Our rule is: mattress size + 2 × (thickness + 6 inches). The 6 inches is the tuck-in on each side.
For example, a 72 × 78 inch mattress that is 6 inches thick needs a sheet of at least 96 × 102 inches. A King (95 inches wide) falls just short on width, so a Super King (108 × 108) is the better fit.

Which size fits your bed?
Using the rule above, here is what we recommend for common mattress sizes:
| Mattress (width × length) | 6 inch thick | 8 inch thick | 10 inch thick |
|---|---|---|---|
| Queen, 60 × 72 in | King | King | King |
| Queen, 60 × 75 in | King | King | King |
| Queen, 60 × 78 in | King | King | Jumbo King |
| King, 72 × 72 in | Super King | Super King | Super King |
| King, 72 × 75 in | Super King | Super King | Super King |
| King, 72 × 78 in | Super King | Super King | Jumbo King |
On a 6-foot-wide bed, a King bedsheet can still work if your mattress is thin (around 5 inches) and you don't mind a shorter tuck. For a neat, fully tucked look on a regular mattress, choose Super King.
When to choose King
- Your bed is a queen (about 5 feet wide).
- Your bed is 6 feet wide but the mattress is thin, around 5 inches.
- You like a neat, tailored look without much fabric hanging down the sides.
When to choose Super King
- Your bed is a king (about 6 feet wide) with a 6 to 9 inch mattress.
- You have a queen bed and want a more generous drape on the sides.
- Your sheet keeps coming untucked, or you share the bed and the sheet gets pulled to one side.
What about very thick mattresses?
Thick mattresses and toppers use up a lot of fabric on the sides. On a 78-inch-long mattress that is 10 inches or thicker, even a Super King won't leave a full tuck at the head and foot. Our Jumbo King bedsheets (120 × 120 inches, with 2 pillow covers) are made for these beds, on selected designs.
Can I use a bigger bedsheet than my bed needs?
Yes. A bigger bedsheet simply hangs lower or tucks in deeper, and many people like that look. The only things to keep in mind are that extra fabric can drag on the floor with a very low bed, and a bigger sheet costs a little more. If you're between two sizes, go bigger.

Only if the mattress is thin, around 5 inches. For a regular 6 to 9 inch mattress on a 72-inch-wide bed, a Super King gives a proper tuck on both sides.

Many of our designs come in both sizes, and some come in only one. Check the size options on each product page.
